Turning Old CDs into “Vinyl” Records by Aleks Kolkowski

As a fan of music I love this. And because I am a fan of recycled design, I am absolutely in love with this. Basically, the artist uses a vinyl cutter to cut grooves into CDs to that can play on record players. To me, it seems a little too good to be true without some kind of modification. I really really really would like to know just how good it sounds and if the rigid plastic of the cd would just tear up your needle. I need to get my hands on one. Thumbs up.

Shardlery & Shardalier by Daniel Harper: Break Glass Bottles to Make Your Own Lamp

Now this is a crazy object. But a lot of fun! This object was created especially for me – for my deviant behavior. In order for this object to work someone needs to throw empty bottles against a cement backing. Breaking bottles can release a lot tension.

There are really two parts to this object: the Sharldery and the Shardalier. The Shardlery is like a factory. You throw in a bottle and glass shards are produced. The Shardalier catches the broken glass becoming a lamp the light of which shines through the glass shards. I’ve actually witnessed people hugging this product at parties. It’s a big “hit”.

+++++++++

Definitely a refreshing take on interactive furniture, and very very creative. I want one.

This ol contraption will turn old newspapers into bricks for firestarting. I would use it to make a mass of floating bricks and set them loose in a pond. If anyone has any experience with this thing, send me an email and let me know if the bricks it creates is hollow or solid.

you’ve heard of patchwork for quilts, but have you heard of patchwork for wood?  amy hunting a furniture designer and illustrator based in london has created furniture known as the ‘patchwork series’. the series consist of lamps, chairs and a book box. each of the products were produced using wood off cuts that were collected from factories around denmark. the lamps were cut out of large solid blocks of wood and made from small off cuts. there are 12 lamps in the collection and each can be stacked on top of one another. the book box has built in book stands and can be used for different size books. all of the products are made entirely from wood and do not use any bolts or screws.

There’s plenty to like here.
